OVER 10,000 Teachers, Students Quarantined In Israel After Reopening Schools

Israel has recorded more than 10,000 coronavirus cases after reopening schools in the country.

According to a statement issued by Israel Ministry of Education, it was declared that the number of pupils and staff quarantined have grown from 16,000 to 17,500 within 12 hours with 347 teachers and pupils that have tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, npr reported that most of the new cases emanated from one high school, Hebrew Gymnasium in Jerusalem where 130 staff and pupils tested positive.

Israel imposed lockdown in mid March as a result of the pandemic outbreak in the small middle Eastern country. But the lockdown was lifted and schools were reopened on May 17, followed by hotels, swimming pools and restaurant.

Israel has recorded 297 death since the outbreak according to the Ministry of Health. New cases discovered have therefore necessitated the shut down of some schools after reopening.

Across Isreal, many parents have yanked their children from schools that remain open.

Dr Arnon Afek, the manager of Israel's coronavirus response said the spike in cases was expected when schools reopened. He said, " It wasn't a surprise, it happened in South Korea and Singapore
